JULIE ATLAS MUZ

Julie Atlas Muz, the reigning Miss Coney Island, is one of the most acclaimed and prolific conceptual performers and choreographers in New York. Muz blurs the boundaries between performance art, dance, burlesque and visual art with her dark, twisted, come-hither performances securing her place in the underworld of nightlife as well as the bastion of the art world. A 2004 Whitney Biennial Artist, a 2005 Valencia Biennale Artist and currently a Lambent Fellow, Julie swam in Europe’s largest saltwater aquarium as a mermaid with 450 tropical saltwater fish, 2 sharks and 1 eel. Muz recently returned from Miami Art Basel, performing her signature I am the Moon duet with rave reviews calling her performance “the highlight of Art Basel so far.”

Muz has toured nationally with the Sex Worker’s Art Show, but typically premiers her work in New York at such venues as P.S. 122, HERE, The Performing Garage, Chashama, LaMama, The Kitchen, and Dixon Place. Late at night you can hear her perform in New York with other burlesque luminaries such as Dirty Martini, The World Famous *BOB*, Scotty the Blue Bunny, Doctor Donut, Murray Hill, The Wau Wau Sisters, Bambi, Bunny Love and many many more. Muz, the Miss Exotic World 2006, has been awarded the 2006 Ethyl Eichelberger Award, and has been an Artist-in-Residence at Chashama (2002), Joyce Soho (2001), Dixon Place (2000) and Movement Research (1998-99).
