Commissioned by EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan, Hidden Inside Mountains is a high definition film that debuted in Japan at WORLD EXPO 2005 on the largest high definition Astrovision screen in the world and features an original score written and recorded by Laurie Anderson with additional vocals by singer/performer Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons).

Hidden Inside Mountains is a film of short stories about nature, artifice and dreams. Located in a fictitious world of theatrical spaces, the stories unfold through music, gesture, text passages and the poetry of variously juxtaposed, evocative visual images. Both joy and loss are expressed in the film’s dreamlike texts, written by Laurie Anderson and presented in both Japanese and English. The film’s haunting music features violins, bells, dog barks and melody as well as many of Anderson’s signature electronic sounds.

In Home of the Brave, seven musicians play strange instruments and wear costumes that occasionally mutate into other strange instruments. The “concert film” includes appearances by a horn section, stage-hands, Latin percussionists, a game show hostess, a telephone that drops in from nowhere and a tango by William Burroughs.
