I MAKE ME [SIC]

WEST COAST PREMIERE: I make me [sic] is a solo choreography adapted continually as an installation for galleries, museums, and alternative spaces. Using the alphabet as a loose structure, Rawls spins out short lectures and other performance material culled from a life history of dance, consumption, and self-definition. The nonlinear and live composition of movement, objects, sound, and text produce an attenuated sense of time and situation, sparking the potential for a body to claim its rights as a work-in-progress, while tugging subtly at the institutional and architectural framework that holds it.

I make me [sic] premiered at MoMA PS1's Greater New York Exhibition and subsequently at The Williams College Museum of Art.

Will Rawls is a writer, choreographer, and performer based in Brooklyn. Rawls works with language and dance to create solo and group work that unravel the idea of self and investigates states of becoming. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant, the Casinos Austria Prix Jardin d’Europe, and a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency. As an interpreter and performer, Rawls has worked with Marina Abramovic, Jerome Bel, Alain Buffard, Maria Hassabi, Xavier Le Roy, Tino Sehgal, and Shen Wei Dance Arts. His writing has been published by Artforum, Triple Canopy, les presses du réel, The Museum of Modern Art, The Hammer Museum, and Danspace Project.
