THE LINCOLN FILM CONSPIRACY (LFC)

The Lincoln Film Conspiracy is a 30-minute film that combines archival footage, new video segments and digital image manipulation. Ina Diane Archer recreates the sound and imagery of vintage sci-fi and musical films to imagine an anthropologist’s discovery of vanished black movies which she believes have been previously abducted by aliens. The Lincoln Film Conspiracy is set in the present, reflects on the past, and imagines the future. The film humorously confronts the practice of film preservation and archiving. Archer’s video work examines the intersections of race and ethnicity, representation and technology. She is an advocate for film preservation and she is particularly interested in innovative early sound cinema and musical comedies.

Director and visual artist Ina Diane Archer was born in Paris, France and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Archer received her BFA in Film/Video from Rhode Island School of Design, a Certificate in Film Production from NYU-SCE, and her MA in Cinema Studies at NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science. Archer was a studio artist with the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1996-97.

Archer’s videos and multimedia works have been shown nationally at The Studio Museum in Harlem, The List Visual Arts Center @ MIT, Dam Stuhltrager Gallery, Brooklyn, The NY Expo of Short Films, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta, GA, and Rush Gallery, Chelsea. She is included in an upcoming publication profiling ten African-American women artists working in film and photography.
